This free workshop will provide new and experienced gardeners with clear steps they can take to create or expand monarch habitat in their own yards. We'll begin with an introduction to monarch biology and ecology to better understand what it takes to support their amazing migration. Then we'll look at what monarchs need in their breeding habitat, and how that connects to other pollinators and the larger ecosystem. We'll walk through the process of selecting a site and plants, how to plant and maintain your habitat, and suggestions for other ways to support monarch butterflies.
Following our guest presenter from Monarch Joint Venture, VLAWMO staff will share local grant funding opportunities watershed residents can pursue for projects that protect water and pollinators.
Light refreshments will be provided.
This workshop is free, but registration is required. Please sign up at this link so we ensure we have materials for all attendees.
