Loon Family Spotlight

Local residents MC and WC observed a family of loons at West Vadnais Lake in the summer of 2019. VLAWMO is thankful for their generosity in sharing these photos with the watershed!

Loon chicks can provide about half of their daily food needs by the age of 5 weeks, and are capable of flight at about 9 weeks. Loons enjoy dining on panfish, bullheads, minnows, frogs, leeches, crayfish, snails, insects, and more.

Learn about these fascinating birds at the National Loon Center website.
