Trumpeter Swan Mortality: Winter 2021/22
Following a period of especially cold weather, a dead Trumpeter swan was found at Sucker Channel in Vadnais/Sucker Regional Park on January 18, 2022. This is a known location where swans die from lead poisoning from lead sinkers and tackle that the swans pick up at this high-use fishing area.
To help prevent swan and other wildlife lead poisoning, check out or participate in the Minnesota Get the Lead Out program. A Get the Lead Out drop box is available at the Sucker Channel year-round for safely disposing of lead sinkers and tackle (pictured).
